Pregnancy
You're Pregnant - Congratulations!
As soon as you suspect or know you are pregnant we recommend you make an appointment with a midwife as soon as possible - ideally before the tenth week of pregnancy.
You do not need to make a GP appointment to confirm you are pregnant, although please make an appointment with a GP should you have any medical problems or are taking medications.
You can now self-refer to see a midwife
Seeing a midwife at an early stage will ensure you are given all the information that you need right from the start to help you make the right choices for you and your baby. There are some routine screening tests that need to be carried out by the tenth week of pregnancy, so an early appointment with a midwife will enable you to discuss these tests and plan appropriately.
If you would like East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUFT) to care for you when you are having your baby, you can choose to do this by self-referring via the website.
The form asks you questions about yourself, your family and your medical background. Please answer as fully as possible, as this will enable the midwife to ensure you receive the most appropriate care. When you are about 10 weeks pregnant, a midwife will either call or email you to arrange a booking appointment, which usually takes place in the 10th or 11th week of pregnancy. At this appointment you will also receive details of your 12-week scan.
You will also receive an email with details of how to register for the My Own Maternity App (MOMA). The MOMA app is a great source of information for our maternity patients and those close to them. It contains general pregnancy information, a personal appointments calendar, the trust’s maternity leaflets and useful contact numbers.
If you have any questions please contact the Maternity team on 01227 864152.
